Protection Against the Effects of Noise

Overview

Many of us take the faculty of hearing for granted, and often don’t do enough to protect our long term hearing, whether it be in our personal or professional lives. Hearing loss can occur gradually, due to excessive exposure over a period of time or immediate caused by sudden excessively loud noises. Loss of hearing is a disability and can be permanent. The course requires no prior knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation or risk assessment. This E-learning module takes into account the requirements of the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005, this includes both employer and employee responsibilities.

The course considers the hierarchy of controls in order to reduce the risk of noise hazards as follows:

  • Elimination
  • Substitution
  • Engineering Controls
  • Administrative Controls
  • Personal Protective Equipment.
