Denial of Service Attack

Overview

Don’t you just hate it when a website you are trying to access keeps crashing? Sometimes this happens because lots of people are trying to do the same thing that you are, like snapping up an online deal or snagging tickets to this year’s hottest festival.

It also happens when cybercriminals maliciously bombard a server with thousands of requests. This is done to stop a website from performing its intended function and is called a Denial of Service attack. It’s frustrating for customers and potentially harmful for the business being targeted.

Outline Learning Objectives:

  • Recognise the types of Denial of Service attacks
  • Explain how Denial of Service attacks work and the effect that they have
  • Demonstrate how to minimise the effects of Denial of Service attacks

Why should I take this course

Whether you work for an organisation with a dedicated server that only it uses, or a smaller organisation that makes use of a shared server, you can still be affected by Denial of Service attacks. You’ll need to know how to put protocols in place to protect against loss of income and reputation. We can’t help you get those festival tickets, but we can help you to understand how these attacks work and how to limit the damage they cause.
