Dust Awareness: Understanding Risks and Controls
Overview
Workplace dust is often invisible, but it can still cause serious harm over time. This course explains how workplace dust can affect health, why risks can build up over time, and what effective dust control looks like in practice. The focus is on practical awareness: recognising higher-risk situations, understanding why controls matter, and using them consistently to reduce long-term health risks.
Learning Objectives
- Define workplace dust and recognise when it poses a health risk
- Identify common types of workplace dust and where they may occur
- Describe the potential health effects of dust exposure
- Explain how dust risks should be controlled using the hierarchy of control, and understand the roles involved
Target Audience
This course is a deep-dive into dust safety awareness, and can pair well either with other Hazardous Substances courses, or with Specialist Environment courses that also speak about hazardous environments.
