Overview

On construction sites, safety is always a top priority. Teams watch out for each other and manage visible risks, but some dangers aren’t so easy to spot. On average, almost two construction workers in the UK die by suicide every day.

This course equips construction workers with practical, life-saving skills to recognise and respond to suicide risk among teammembers. Learners will explore how to spot subtle warning signs, hold direct and compassionate conversations, and connect people to the right support.

Through expert-led video content, learners will gain a step-by-step approach to ask difficult questions, assess risk and take appropriate action, from immediate crisis response to ongoing check-ins. The course reinforces that mental health is just as important as physical safety on site, and that starting this conversation can save a life, not make things worse.

Objectives

At the end of the course, trainees will be able to:

• describe what suicidal thoughts and behaviours are, and recognise how common they are in the construction industry?
• spot early warning signs that someone might be thinking about suicide.?
• use a clear, step-by-step approach to have supportive conversations with someone who may be thinking about suicide.?
