Safeguarding in the Curriculum

Overview

Integrating safeguarding throughout the curriculum in your school or college is vital to the creation of a holistic safeguarding culture. But it can seem challenging to embed safeguarding topics in classes like physical education. How can you encourage students to consider and explore safeguarding alongside their overall learning? Embedding safeguarding in the curriculum empowers students to protect themselves and each other. It also helps prepare them to become responsible members of society when they leave the educational environment. Finding ways to explore students' Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural development will enhance their understanding of topics like mental health and inclusion. And promoting British values will prepare students to participate fully in society while meeting the standards laid out in the Department for Education's current guidance.

By the end of this course, you'll be able to:

  • Recognise the importance of embedding safeguarding throughout the curriculum, so you can empower students to protect themselves and make informed choices
  • Identify ways to include Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural development (SMSC) in the curriculum, to make sure it's at the heart of learning throughout the educational environment
  • Recognise how to promote fundamental British values in the curriculum, to meet the Department for Education's current guidance
