Handling Glassware in the Bar

Overview

Do you like drinking out of a glass with lipstick marks, chipped on the edge or is smeary? If you don’t, your customers won’t either!  Whatever the style or standard of bar there is no reason not to have the highest health and safety standards for glasses. Customers are very aware of these standards, and it is a vital part of the reputation a business has.

This module identifies the best practice standards that would apply to any bar and develops the understanding behind why it is important to achieve a professional standard.

The Handling Glassware in the Bar module explores 4 key areas: Types of glassware including stamped and branded glasses and a basic guide to the style of glass that might be used for different drinks; a section on health and safety including the importance of clean hands, washing glasses safely by hand or machine and actions such as handling glasses from the base; polishing glasses identifies the technique and final standards; and carrying glasses emphasises using trays safely.
